Pirates Catcher Roberto Perez Leaves Game With Apparent Left Leg Injury

UPDATE- Perez’s injury has now been revealed as “left hamstring discomfort.” When the IL news becomes public we will update you as soon as possible.

Roberto Perez has left the game between the Pirates and Reds Saturday afternoon with an apparent left leg injury. On a Ben Gamel single in the eighth inning, Perez slipped on his way to second base. Perez laid on the diamond for a while and eventually was aided off the field, barely putting weight on his left leg.

Since backup catcher Andrew Knapp was tossed from the dugout arguing balls and strikes, Josh VanMeter had to serve as the emergency catcher in a tight ballgame. Perez has notably had a rough stretch of injuries in his career, and with the way he walked off the field, you can assume he will be out long term.

So far on the season, Perez carried a .233 batting average but, more importantly, has bought crucial calls for the Pirates’ pitching staff. When we hear what the injury is and how long Perez will be out, we will update you as soon as possible.
