Pirates AFL Updates: Young Bucs Back in Win Column

The Scottsdale Scorpions snapped a week-long losing streak on Tuesday afternoon, with three Pirates prospects making an appearance in a nail biting 9-7 win.

Kervin Pichardo was the lone Pirates’ position player to take part in the game, starting at second base and going 1-for-4 with a single and a walk. He also helped start Scottsdale’s four-run eighth inning that put them ahead for good, leading things off with a walk before coming around to score the tying run.

Derek Diamond and Eddy Yean both took the mound for the Scorpions, each contributing a scoreless frame. Diamond took over for the fourth inning and showed his ability to force weak contact, two ground ball outs and a weak pop up for three up and three down.

Yean got the ball for the sixth and also worked a perfect frame, ending his day with some theatrics with a smoked fly ball that stayed in the yard… and fell into his right fielder’s glove.

The two combined for just 14 pitches in all, mowing through their outings with efficiency.

Up next, Scottsdale will head to Mesa to take on the Solar Sox at 9:30pm EDT.

It figures that the Pirates players would be placed on a lousy team that will finish last.
