Pirates AFL Updates: Sammy Siani Extends Hitting Streak
It’s been a good start to the 2024 Arizona Fall League slate for Pittsburgh Pirates outfield prospect Sammy Siani.
The 23-year-old went 2 for 4 for the Scottsdale Scorpions in their 3-1 win over the Salt River Rafters on Wednesday night.
Siani now has a four-game hitting streak with at least one hit in each game he’s played for the Scorpions so far. The outfielder is third on the team with a .412 batting average with 7 hits in 17 at-bats. He has a double, a home run, one RBI, four runs scored and a stolen base so far.
The only other Pirates’ prospect to appear in Wednesday’s win was Geovanny Planchart, who went 0 for 3 with three strikeouts, a walk and a run scored. Through his first three games of the AFL, Planchart has 2 hits in 10 at-bats with a double, and RBI and two walks.
Defensively, it’s been a struggle for Planchart. He committed his fourth error on Wednesday on a pickoff attempt while serving as the Scorpions’ catcher.
Up next for the Scorpions is a matchup with the Peoria Javelinas (2-6) on Thursday afternoon. With a 3-4 record, Scottsdale is tied with the Salt River Rafters for fourth among six teams in the league.
