Pirates Activate Anthony Banda Off Injured List

Published

on

The Pirates officially activated left-handed pitcher Anthony Banda off the 10-day injured list ahead of Tuesday’s game in Detroit. The Pirates had originally placed him on the IL with a non-COVID illness back on Apr. 26, retroactive to Apr. 23, meaning Banda was out for the minimum 10 days.

In a corresponding move, the Pirates optioned fellow southpaw Aaron Fletcher to Triple-A Indianapolis, as reported on Pittsburgh Baseball Now on Monday.

Banda has appeared in five games for the Pirates so far this season. He’s given up one run on four hits in 4.1 innings. He’s picked up five strikeouts and has yet to issue a free pass.

The 28-year-old Banda is now in his second season in Pittsburgh after the Pirates claimed him off waivers from the Mets last August.

The Pirates were in need of another lefty in their bullpen alongside Dillon Peters after Fletcher and Sam Howard were both optioned to Triple-A the past two days.
