Perrotto: Should Be Interesting How Pirates Outfield Pieces Fit (+)
Very few trends develop four games into the Grapefruit League season.
However, it has become apparent early that the Pittsburgh Pirates are seriously considering making Jack Suwinski their regular center fielder this season. Manager Derek Shelton has confirmed it to reporters during spring training in Bradenton, Fla.
Suwinski has started in center field in each of his three games so far. Bryan Reynolds, the Pirates’ primary center fielder over the last two years, played left field in his lone Grapefruit League appearance.
Whether it will be Reynolds in left field, Suwinski in center field and Andrew McCutchen in right field when the Pirates open the season March 30 in Cincinnati remains to be seen. However, it could certainly shake out that way for a few reasons.
