SAN DIEGO – The Pittsburgh Pirates will have the No. 1 overall pick in next year’s amateur draft. It is difficult to determine if that is a good or a bad thing.

On the surface, it should be a good thing. The Pirates will be able to take anyone they want and seemingly add a potential cornerstone player to their rebuild.

However, the Pirates had the first pick just last year. So far, it hasn’t turned out very well.

Granted, it is a smidge unfair to judge a draft pick quite this soon. However, the reviews on Henry Davis have been mixed at best.
