Perrotto: My Pittsburgh Pirates Top 30 Prospects List

Pirates prospects

Prospect lists are fun to make and talk about, and they stir plenty of conversation. Yet they are not always the best indicator of future success.

I compiled and wrote about the Pirates’ top 30 prospects list for the Baseball America Prospect Handbook for many years.

Adam Frazier was never in top half of my lists but went on to start in the All-Star Game last summer. Plenty of players ranked in the top five wound up never making an impact in the major leagues.

You just never know.

Henry Davis was at the top of the Pittsburgh Baseball Now Pirates Top 30 Prospects list that was revealed Monday as part of a collaboration among the PBN staff. He is also at the top of my personal list, though with trepidation.

Davis’ two-year professional career has been torpedoed by injuries so far. I can’t help but wonder if that is bad luck or something that will be a career-long trend.

Cody Potanko revealed his list Wednesday after Danny Demilio did the same Tuesday. Here is my top 30:

  1. Henry Davis
  2. Termarr Johnson
  3. Quinn Priester
  4. Liover Peguero
  5. Nick Gonzales
  6. Endy Rodriguez
