PBN Around the Horn: Reliving Lloyd McClendon’s Crazy Day in 2001

Published

on

Welcome to the PBN Around the Horn. Here you’ll find news and notes from across Major League Baseball, your Pittsburgh Pirates, and around the Sports Now network.

Former Pirate’s manager Lloyd McClendon has accepted a position as the Detroit Tigers Triple-A Manager Thursday afternoon. Anytime I head McClendon’s name, I instantly go back to when he was the Pirate’s manager, and I think we all know why.

June 26th, 2001, I was a 6-year-old little chunky kid probably eating Lunchables and looking forward to 2nd grade. During that time, Pirates’ fans witnessed one of the funniest/passionate moments in Bucco history. Former Pirates’ manager Lloyd McClendon became one of the first guys to steal first base, LITERALLY!

Let us know at Pittsburgh Baseball Now if you’ve seen a situation similar to McClendon’s. Give us your crazy baseball moment stories, or stories you have heard. It’s Friday, guys, so let’s start this weekend off right with some whacky stories!
