PBN Around the Horn: Pirate Outfield Prospects Who Could See MLB Time

Welcome to the PBN Around the Horn. Here you’ll find news and notes from across Major League Baseball, your Pittsburgh Pirates, and around the Sports Now network.

Tensions are at an all-time high in labor negotiations between the MLBPA and MLB. It seems like every hour, we are hit with news of “underwhelming” offers and a trench warfare mentality having inches of progress instead of miles.

With negativity and spirits down, why don’t we create a list? When you look at the Pirates’ roster, you can agree that it’s not the prettiest. The Pirates’ pitching looks rocky at best, Ke’Bryan Hayes needs to prove he can stay healthy, and yes, the outfield as a whole is underwhelming.

Besides Bryan Reynolds, the Pirates’ outfield is, like I said, underwhelming. (today’s buzzword) With that in mind, several guys might seem some time in the outfield, and many refer to these guys as “fringe” prospects. Below is a list of some prospects who might see some major league time post-lockout.

  1. Bligh Madris- .267/.353/.417/ slash line along with an OPS of .770 in the 2021 season.
  2. Cal Mitchell- .279/.328/.423 slash line along with an OPS of .751 in the 2021 season.
  3. Brendt Citta- .294/.347/.413 slash line along with an OPS of .760 in the 2021 season.
  4. Fabricio Marcias- 289/.340/.432 slash line along with an OPS of .772 in the 2021 season.

(Side Note) I left off the 40-man roster additions Jack Suwinski and Canaan Smith-Njigba because they were obvious choices.
