UPDATE (12:58 p.m.) A possible candidate for the Pirates’ hitting coach job opening is now available as Marcus Thames will not be retained as the hitting coach of the Yankees. Derek Shelton coached in the Yankees’ system when Thames was their in the early-2000s.

News: Yankees have informed hitting coach Marcus Thames that his contract will not be renewed for the 2022 season.

UPDATE (10:24 a.m.) On this date 29 years ago, Sid Bream was called safe for the Braves. The Pirates would not see the playoffs after that until 2013.
