PBN Around the Horn: Grab Your Chalk and Harmonica, Lockout Day 1

Published

on

Welcome to the PBN Around the Horn. Here you’ll find news and notes from across Major League Baseball, your Pittsburgh Pirates, and around the Sports Now network.

UPDATE: Baseball America has given us the updates on the R5 draft. Apparently the minor league R5 is good to go, the major league is suspended indefinitely

UPDATE: Several players are now using their grayed out pictures on MLB dot com’s site as their profile pictures. Four former Pirates from what I’ve seen have done so. The four players are Trevor Williams, Joe Musgrove, Jameson Tailon, and Andrew McCutchen

UPDATE: Baseball America has come out and handed the Greensboro Grasshoppers (the Pirates High-A club), the award for the best High-A organization. Congrats to Greensboro and their staff!

UPDATE: According to Jon Heyman, former Pirate Jose Osuna has signed a 3 year extension to stay with the Tokyo Swallows. The Swallows are coming off a championship season.

UPDATE: The Pirates have released a statement on the current lockout situation. Jason Mackey provides us with the tweet.

In the movies or television, you know, you see a prisoner mark the walls with tally marks to signify the number of days has passed? Well, I got a feeling we will be having a lot of tally marks on our own walls with the MLB lockout official. Tension has been bubbling like a witch’s cauldron on October 31st.

If baseball can be fixed somewhat and create a more steady and even playing field, consider this writer and fan a happy one. Will they fix everything or most things? Probably not, but a lot of fans will look to the players union to hold firm and stand their ground. If I were a betting man, I’d get your chalk ready and maybe buy a harmonica; it’s going to be a long one.
