Nick Gonzales, Ji-hwan Bae Named AFL Fall Stars

The Arizona Fall League announced their “Fall Stars” and two Pirates made the cut. Nick Gonzales and Ji-hwan Bae were both name to the West team’s roster.

Gonzales has been on a tear in the AFL, slashing .381/.487/.571 with seven extra-base hits, 13 runs driven in and four steals (on four attempts) in 17 games with Peoria. The 2020 first-round pick is picking up right where he left off with High-A Greensboro where he posted a .950 OPS.

Like Gonzales, Bae has played in 17 games with Peoria and is hitting .269 with a .371 on-base percentage and a .759 OPS. Bae has flashed his plus-speed by swiping seven bags in eight attempts and has played both second base and center field. Bae spent the year with Double-A Altoona where he had an OPS of .771 and stole 20 bases.

Gonzales (No. 4) and Bae (No. 22) are both in the Pirates Top 30 prospects according to MLB Pipeline. The game will be played on Nov. 13. The entire rosters can be found below.
