MLB Draft Prospect Profile: Mississippi Gatorade Player of the Year JoJo Parker

This is one in a series of breakdowns of the top prospects available in the 2025 MLB Draft.
In a draft class with no shortage of prep infield standouts, JoJo Parker is among the very best.
Parker, who hails from Purvis High School in Mississippi, was named the state’s Gatorade Player of the Year after a sensational senior season.
In 37 games at Purvis this season, the 18-year-old slashed an other-worldly .465/.665/1.010 with 11 doubles, a pair of triples, 13 home runs, 35 RBI, 70 runs scored and 30 stolen bases. As if those numbers weren’t already impressive enough, Parker drew 45 walks and only struck out four times in 158 plate appearances.
There’s a reason Parker is considered one of the best pure hitters among this year’s high school pool. Just take a look at his smooth left-handed swing.

In addition to a plus hit tool, Parker possesses above-average power and at least average speed. Defensively, there are questions as to whether or not he can stick at shortstop long term, but his bat projects to play at the other infield positions.
Parker is already listed at 6-foot-3 and 215 pounds. With room to get even stronger as he matures and develops, it’s not inconceivable to expect 30-home run potential in his future.
Parker’s twin brother, Jacob, is also considered one of the better high school prospects available in this year’s draft class, but it’s JoJo that will be a probable top 10 pick and someone certainly in play when the Pittsburgh Pirates are on the clock with the sixth pick. Both brothers are committed to play collegiately at Mississippi State.
If the Pirates took Parker, it would be the second-straight season they took Mississippi’s Gatorade Player of the Year. Konnor Griffin took home the honor last season, and his professional career is off to a torrid start after he was selected ninth overall in last year’s draft.
