Meet Bucco, The Pirates First Ever Team Dog

Published

on

Earlier this season, the Pirates and PNC Bank announced that the Pirates were getting a team dog for the first time in franchise history. After putting the name of the dog to a fan vote, the Pirates and PNC announced in the second inning of Monday’s game against the Dodgers that the dog will be named Bucco.

The dog will be trained by Guardian Angels Medical Service Dogs to train with a military veteran in need of support.  The purpose of the Pirates team dog program is to bring awareness to these types of needed services, specifically for military veterans.

The dog will be brought to Pirates home games to ensure that it has the necessary socialization it needs as a puppy and will interact with players, coaches and fans.

Bucco was one of four names that fans could vote for along with Homer, Rookie and Jolly. Bucco was the runaway choice, amassing nearly two-thirds of the total votes.
