The Pittsburgh Pirates made four more spring training cuts Monday, including optioning infielder Mark Mathias to Triple-A Indianapolis.

Right-hander Tyler Chatwood was reassigned to minor-league camp along with infielders Drew Maggi and Chris Owings.

Acquired from the Texas Rangers earlier this month, Mathias went 4 for 18 (.222) for the Pirates in Grapefruit League play with one double, four walks and eight strikeouts.

Maggi hit .345 (10 for 29) with two doubles, three home runs, one walk and 11 strikeouts. Owings was 8 for 32 (.250) with two doubles, a homer, nine walks and nine strikeouts.

Returning from shoulder surgery, Chatwood had a rough spring as he was tagged for nine runs on eight hits – including three home runs – in five innings. He also walked six and struck out four.

The Pirates have 32 players remaining in camp, though left-hander Jarlin Garcia and right-handers JT Brubaker and Robert Stephenson are expected to begin the season on the injured list when the Pirates open Thursday when they play the Reds in Cincinnati.
