Mac Miller Mania: Fans Wait in Line for Hours for Bobblehead of Pittsburgh Rapper

Mac Miller, Pittsburgh Pirates featured

The Pittsburgh Pirates are giving away a bobblehead of late rapper Mac Miller ahead of Saturday night’s game against the Chicago White Sox. Judging by the size of the lines of fans waiting to get one, you would think the Pirates were giving away yachts.

Fans were said to have started forming lines around PNC Park at 8 a.m. ET, over 10 hours before the scheduled first pitch. By just after 4 p.m. ET, the lines stretched all the way across the Roberto Clemente Bridge and wrapped all the way down Fort Duquesne Blvd across the Allegheny River.

Miller, who died in 2018 at the age of 26, gained fame as a Pittsburgh-based rapper who graduated from Taylor Allderdice High School in Squirrel Hill. He’s best known for mixtapes K.I.D.S. and Best Day Ever, as well as Blue Slide Park (released in 2011), which became the first independently distributed debut album to top the US Billboard 200 since 1985.

In addition to the bobblehead giveaway, the Pirates collaborated to sell a Mac Miller t-shirt exclusively at the team’s Clubhouse Store.

In a statement made on Twitter/X, the Pirates said the t-shirts sold out in record time.

“Due to your overwhelming support, the Mac Miller shirts sold out in record time today. We are happy to announce that we have reordered the shirts and they will be available at future Pirates games and in the Clubhouse Store starting Friday, July 25.

“A portion of proceeds from these t-shirt sales will benefit The Mac Miller Fund, which supports programming, resources and opportunities to youth from underserved communities, helping them recognize their full potential through exploration in the arts and community building.”
