For the second-straight game, the Pittsburgh Pirates blew a big lead and were defeated by the Colorado Rockies.

Despite three home runs from Liover Peguero, the Pirates fell 8-5  against the Rockies at Coors Field on Saturday afternoon.

How We Got There

Liover Peguero greeted Rockies starter Austin Gomber with a leadoff home run in the top of the first inning. Four innings later, Peguero lined his second homer of the game, a three-run shot, to extend the lead to 4-0.

With the Pirates trailing by four runs in the top of the ninth, Peguero connected on his third home run off Dugan Darnell.

Pirates starter Paul Skenes cruised through the first five innings before giving up a three-run home run to Jordan Beck in the sixth. Warming Bernabel followed with a double, which knocked Skenes out of the game.

The Rockies (30-80)  added three more runs in the inning off Braxton Ashcraft, who came out of the bullpen in relief of Skenes. The Pirates (47-64) trailed 7-4 after the seventh after Bernabel drove in a run with a single.

Orlando Arcia homered off Génesis Cabrera in the eighth inning to tack on an insurance run for Colorado.

Key Moment

Austin Beck’s home run off Paul Skenes finally gave the Rockies some life, and they took all the momentum from that point on.

Star of the Game

This was Liover Peguero’s first career multi-homer game. He’s now belted four home runs over his last three games.

Stat to Know

The last Pirate to hit three home runs in a game was Michael Pérez on June 30, 2022 against the Milwaukee Brewers.
