Kevin Newman Leaves Game With Left Groin Tightness

Published

on

The Pirates announced that Kevin Newman was removed from Tuesday’s game against the Brewers with left groin tightness. Before being removed, Newman collected a pair of hits and drove in two runs.

The injury is the same that kept Newman out of action for a couple games last week, so the news is certainly something to monitor moving forward.

If Newman lands on the injured list, Cole Tucker, who would be a natural fit to replace him at short, is currently on the COVID-injured list. Of course there would be speculation that the Pirates could bring Oneil Cruz up if Newman is out for an extended period of time.

In this game, Ke’Bryan Hayes replaced Newman at short. It was the first time that Hayes played short in his Major League career.
