Ke’Bryan Hayes Day-to-Day With Ankle Injury

Published

on

Pirates third baseman Ke’Bryan Hayes sustained a minor injury to his right ankle in practice a couple days ago that will keep him from game action for the next couple days. He will continue to partake in all baseball activities other than running in the meantime.

Hayes last appeared as a DH in Friday’s game against the Orioles but missed the last two games over the weekend. So far this spring, Hayes has picked up four hits in 12 at-bats and has driven in a run.

Injuries to his left hand/wrist area limited Hayes to just 96 games a year ago. He finished the year with a .689 OPS in just shy of 400 plate appearances. Defensively, Hayes posted an eye-catching 16 defensive runs saved at the hot corner.

The Pirates have seemingly avoided any cause for major concern as it sounds like Hayes will be good to go in relatively short order. Opening Day is scheduled for a week from Thursday.
