PITTSBURGH — Jared Jones delivered six-scoreless innings and Jack Suwinski hit a solo home run to lift the Pittsburgh Pirates to a 1-0 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers at PNC Park on Tuesday night.

Jones (4-5) held a potent Dodgers’ lineup in check despite having to deal with some traffic on the bases.

The rookie stranded a pair of baserunners in both the first and third innings and was responsible for the Dodgers (38-24) leaving six runners on base over the course of his start.

Jones struck out two former MVPs in Shohei Ohtani and Freddie Freeman to end the fifth inning and punched out the final two batters he faced in the sixth. He retired the final nine batters he faced.

It took a career-high 100 pitched for Jones to get through his six innings. He allowed three hits, walked three and punched out six batters. Perhaps fueled by extra adrenaline, he hit 101 mph on the radar gun on three occasions in the first inning.

The Pirates bullpen trio of Colin Holderman, Aroldis Chapman and David Bednar preserved the lead. Bednar recorded his 12th save of the season.

In his first at-bat since getting recalled from Triple-A Indianapolis, Suwinski delivered a solo home run off of Dodgers starter and former Pirates’ pitcher Tyler Glasnow.

It was all the Pirates (28-32) managed against Glasnow (6-4), who threw six innings, yielded three hits, walked a pair and struck out nine.

Bryan Reynolds had the other two hits off of Glasnow – both singles – and finished the game 2 for 4 with a stolen base.

The Pirates continued their winning ways against the Dodgers. Since the start of 2022, Pittsburgh is 9-5 against Los Angeles, the only National League team with a winning record against them during that time.
