The Pittsburgh Pirates activated Joey Bart from the 10-day injured list and optioned fellow catcher Jason Delay to Triple-A Indianapolis.

Bart had been on the injured list since May 28 with a left thumb injury. He completed a rehab assignment with Indianapolis where he collected 6 hits in 17 at-bats with a double and four RBIs in six games.

The Pirates acquired Bart from the San Francisco Giants in early April for outfield prospect Rodolfo Nolasco.

Bart provided an instant impact to the Pirates after he was acquired. The 27-year-old played in 22 games with Pittsburgh prior to getting injured and slashed .267/.362/.517 with three doubles, four home runs and 12 RBIs.

Bart is behind the plate and batting seventh for the Pirates on Sunday against the Atlanta Braves.

Delay has played in seven games this season with the Pirates. He missed the majority of the season after undergoing surgery on his right knee at the beginning of the season.

In his seven games, Delay has hit .200 with a .733 OPS, three doubles, six RBIs and has not struck out in 19 plate appearances.

With Delay no longer on the active roster, Bart will share the catching duties with veteran backstop Yasmani Grandal.
