Ji Hwan Bae Lands With New Team Via Waivers, Liover Peguero Hits Minor-League Free Agency

The New York Mets have claimed infielder/outfielder Ji Hwan Bae off waivers from the Pittsburgh Pirates. Bae was placed on waivers on Tuesday.
Bae played in 13 games for the Pirates in 2025 and had one hit in 20 at-bats. In parts of four seasons with Pittsburgh, Bae hit .223 with a .586 OPS, 22 doubles, two triples, two home runs, 44 RBI and 37 stolen bases.
Additionally, the Detroit Tigers claimed right-hander Jack Little off waivers. Like Bae, Little was placed on waivers by the Pirates on Tuesday. Little did not appear in a game with the Pirates after he was claimed off waivers from the Dodgers on Aug. 6. In 14 appearances with Triple-A Indianapolis, the 27-year-old went 2-1 with a 2.79 ERA.
Infielder Liover Peguero was also placed on waivers with Bae and Little but went unclaimed and was sent outright to Indianapolis. He’s now a minor-league free agent.
Peguero appeared in 33 games with the Pirates this season and hit .200 with a .635 OPS, four home runs and 11 RBI.
The Pirates cleared two additional spots on the 40-man roster by designating right-handed pitchers Dugan Darnell and Michael Darrell-Hicks for assignment.
Darnell was claimed off waivers from the Colorado Rockies on Friday. Darrell-Hicks made one appearance with the Pirates in 2025 after he was claimed midseason from the Los Angeles Angels.
Right-handed pitcher Jared Jones, catcher/first baseman Endy RodrÃguez, outfielder Ronny Simon and infielder Enmanuel Valdez were all reinstated from the 60-day injured list.
The Pirates’ 40-man roster now consists of 38 players.
