Sources: Jared Jones Likely to Have Tommy John Surgery

Pittsburgh Pirates right-hander Jared Jones will likely undergo Tommy John reconstructive elbow surgery, two baseball sources told Pittsburgh Baseball Now.
The sources said on Sunday that doctors told Jones he will need the procedure and “it’s all but a done deal” that it will be performed soon.
Jones, 23, will miss the rest of this season and likely all next season if he has surgery. He is scheduled to be examined by orthopedist Keith Meister on Tuesday in Arlington, Texas.
Jones has been on the injured list all season with an ulnar collateral ligament strain. Jones pitched 12 innings in four Grapefruit League games in spring training before being shut down. He tried to rehab the injury rather than have surgery.
Jones had been on a throwing program, and the Pirates said the initial exam of Jones showed that his elbow was stable and opted to shut him down for six weeks. He began playing catch in late April in hopes of returning to the mound in mid-July but recently sustained a setback,
In his MLB debut season last year, Jared Jones had a 6-8 record and 4.14 ERA in 22 starts. He was the Pirates’ second-round selection in the 2020 amateur draft from La Mirada High School in Whittier, Calif.
