Pittsburgh Pirates veteran left-hander Rich Hill has been scratched because of illness from his scheduled start against the Atlanta Braves on Sunday.

Reliever Wil Crowe will make the start as part of what will be a bullpen game for the Pirates at North Port, Fla., in Grapefruit League action.

Signed as a free agent in the offseason, Hill was scheduled to make his final appearance of spring training. He has allowed six runs and nine hits in eight innings with six strikeouts and two walks.

The 43-year-old Hill is the oldest player in the major leagues.

The Pirates open the regular season Thursday in Cincinnati against the Reds.
