If a pennant was awarded for salary arbitration, the Pittsburgh Pirates might win it.

The Pirates went 2-0 in their arbitration cases as they defeated relief pitcher Dennis Santana in a decision announced on Saturday. They also beat right-hander Johan Oviedo earlier in the week.

Santana was awarded $1.4 million instead of the $2.1 million he requested. Last season, the 28-year-old made $1 million while going 3-1 record with three saves and a 3.89 ERA in 62 games combined with the New York Yankees and Pirates.

Santana’s hearing was held on Wednesday in St. Petersburg, Fla., with Brian Keller, Richard Bloch and Margaret Brogan as the arbitrators.

The only team with more hearings scheduled is the St. Louis Cardinals, who have cases pending with right-hander Andre Pallante, utility player Brendan Donovan and outfielder Lars Nootbaar.
