Cincinnati Reds Trade Sonny Gray To Minnesota
A top of the rotation picture has been moved out of the NL Central.
Sunday afternoon, the Cincinnati Reds trade RHP Sonny Gray to the Minnesota Twins in exchange for former 1st round pick Chase Petty. Along with Gray, the Reds also receive RHP Francis Peguero.
Gray, 32, started 26 games last season and went 7-9 with a 4.19 ERA (135.1 IP, 50 walks, 155 strikeouts). The opposition hit .225 against the right-hander, who also had a 1.22 WHIP. Gray is a two-time All-Star (2015, 2019), having pitched for Oakland, NY Yankees and Cincinnati. Gray has a career record of 82-72 with a 3.61 ERA, a .231 opponent batting average and a 1.22 WHIP.
Over the last 3 seasons, Gray’s record is 23-20 with a 3.49 ERA and finished seventh in the NL Cy Young Award voting.
The Twins are picking up Gray’s $10 million 2022 salary and have a club option in 2023 that’s worth $12 million.
The Reds are picking up Petty, who was the Twins 2021 1st round pick (26th overall)

Peguero, 24, spent the 2021 season with the Reds High-A Dayton team, going 1-1 with a 4.96 ERA, 32.2 IP, 7 walks, 36 strikeouts and a 1.22 WHIP in 28 apperances.
