Brubaker and Underwood Jr. Leave With Right Shoulder Discomfort

During Saturday’s game against the Cubs, the Pirates said both JT Brubaker and Duane Underwood Jr. left with right shoulder discomfort. Both Brubaker and Underwood seemed frustrated, angry, and in a bit of pain when pulled.

Brubaker’s situation is a little more saddening than Underwood’s in a way. With Brubaker literally coming off of the 10-day IL mere hours before he was announced the starter, one would think that Brubaker would be shut down the rest of the year. Brubaker would only have pitched maybe two more times before the season ends, but it’s sad news for Brubaker nonetheless.

Underwood’s case is a little more obvious in nature. Underwood came into Saturday’s game with 109.0 innings pitched. Before being pulled, one would assume he would go another two innings, at least, now his usage and his enormous innings pitched may not be Underwood’s whole issue with his shoulder, but it’s probably a major factor.
