BREAKING: Surprise; Pirates Trade Bailey Falter to Royals

The Pittsburgh Pirates traded a starting pitcher, and it’s not Mitch Keller. Instead, the Pirates traded left-hander Bailey Falter to the Kansas City Royals for left-handed reliever Evan Sisk and first baseman Callan Moss.
Falter is in the midst of his best season in the big leagues. In 22 starts this season, the 28-year-old has a 7-5 record with a 3.73 ERA across 22 starts.
The Pirates acquired Falter from the Philadelphia Phillies at the deadline two years ago in exchange for infielder Rodolfo Castro. In parts of three seasons with the Pirates, the left-hander went 17-16 with a 4.32 ERA across 60 appearances/57 starts.
The Pirates viewed Falter as a non-tender candidate this offseason, a source told Pittsburgh Baseball Now.
The 28-year-old Sisk made his MLB debut with the Royals earlier this season and allowed one run with 11 strikeouts in 5.1 innings. In 31 appearances with Triple-A Omaha this season, Sisk pitched to a 3.77 ERA and 36 strikeouts in 28.2 innings across 31 relief appearances.
Moss spent the season with High-A Quad Cities and slashed .270/.372/.418 with 22 doubles, three triples, seven home runs and 14 stolen bases. He led the Midwest League with 70 RBI at the time of the trade.
The 21-year-old was originally signed as a non-drafted free agent out of Saint Leo University in 2024.
It’s the second trade the Pirates made with the Royals in July. Earlier this month, the Pirates sent Adam Frazier to Kansas City for fellow infielder Cam Devanney.
Earlier in the day on Thursday, the Pirates traded David Bednar to the New York Yankees for three prospects.
