PITTSBURGH — The Furries are once again out and about in Pittsburgh as Anthrocon — AKA the Furry convention — is underway this weekend.

In case you didn’t know, when Andrew McCutchen sees Furries, he turns into the greatest baseball player to ever exist. No, seriously.

Throughout his career in Pittsburgh, anytime the furry convention takes place, McCutchen turns his game up a notch, or two, or ten for that matter.

This year has been no different. McCutchen sent out a one-word tweet, as he’s done in previous years, on Thursday night. “Furries.”

On Thursday, he finished 2 for 4 with a double and a run scored in the Pirates’ win over the Padres. Then on Friday night, he went 3 for 5 with a home run, a double and three RBIs.

“I don’t know, man. The power of the furries,” he said. “The power of Anthrocon. Something about it, I guess. They’re here…. Can’t explain it, man. It’s awesome. The weekend’s not over. Keep it going.”

In fact, during the game on Friday night, the Pirates showed a Furry on the Gateway Clipper in the inning break before the Pirates came to bat in the bottom of the fourth.

McCutchen led off that inning. What did he do? Yep, he homered.

“You need the power, need something to happen, need something to shake? Just put them up on the scoreboard.” McCutchen joked.

As long as the Furries are in town, count on a big game from McCutchen.
