After reaching on a single to left field in the bottom of the sixth inning against the Arizona Diamondbacks, Pittsburgh Pirates designated hitter Andrew McCutchen walked off the field with an apparent injury.

Manager Derek Shelton and athletic trainer Rafael Freitas went out to check on McCutchen at first base. After a short conversation, the three walked off the field and into the Pirates’ dugout. McCutchen appeared to be grabbing his left thigh.

Ji Hwan Bae replaced McCutchen as a pinch runner and scored on a Bryan Reynolds two-run home run.

McCutchen has played in 94 games this season for the Pirates and has served as the team’s primary designated hitter. On the season, the 37-year-old is slashing .228/.328/.383 with 14 doubles, one triple, 13 home runs and 31 RBIs.

He was 1 for 3 with a single and a strikeout from the top spot of the Pirates’ lineup before leaving Saturday’s game.
